NRA Firearms Instructor Development Pathway

Becoming an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor is one of the most respected credentials in the civilian firearms training world. It represents structured education, evaluation, and commitment to the safety and skill-building of other shooters. USS Academy's Tier 6 Professional Development program supports students pursuing NRA-recognized instructor credentials in Orlando and across Central Florida, and we maintain active NRA credentials on our own teaching roster.

Over 27 years, USS Academy has trained instructors who went on to operate independent training businesses, serve as range safety officers at commercial ranges, support law enforcement and military units, and work directly on our teaching roster. The professional development program is led by field leadership who hold credentials from the NRA, USCCA, U.S. Marine Corps, Florida Class K License, and Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor programs. We do not outsource instructor development — we deliver it.

Pathways We Support

USS Academy supports multiple NRA pathways. The right pathway depends on your experience, goals, and discipline of interest.

NRA Basic Instructor Training

The foundation course required for all NRA instructor disciplines. Covers instructor teaching methodology and NRA program standards.

NRA Pistol Instructor

Certification to teach NRA Basic Pistol and related pistol-discipline courses. Combined with Basic Instructor Training.

NRA Range Safety Officer

RSO certification for range supervision at public, private, and institutional ranges. High demand in Florida.

NRA Chief Range Safety Officer

The supervisory credential for RSOs. Required for many range operations roles.

USCCA Instructor

For instructors planning to teach under USCCA curriculum alongside NRA credentials.

Florida Class K Preparation

Preparation for the Florida Class K Firearms Instructor License used for security-industry training.

Before You Enroll in Instructor Training

NRA instructor pathways have prerequisites designed to ensure candidates arrive ready to teach.

Operational Experience Behind Every Credential

There are multiple ways to earn NRA credentials in Orlando. Here is what USS Academy brings that others do not.

Scheduling and Location

Location: Instructor training is delivered at USS Academy's primary partner range, 595 Donovan Crews Road, Saint Cloud, FL 34773. Classroom sessions and qualifications are held on-site.

Duration: Most NRA instructor pathways run 2 to 4 full days. Combined Basic Instructor Training plus a discipline certification (such as Pistol Instructor) typically runs 3 days.

Scheduling: Instructor development cohorts are scheduled on an enrollment basis rather than a weekly rotation. Call 407-305-8335 to discuss your pathway and get scheduled.

Tuition: Tuition varies by pathway. See our Tier 6 pricing (starting at $799) or call for a pathway-specific quote. Pricing includes instructor materials and NRA-required course fees.

From Certified to Teaching

USS Academy regularly recruits qualified instructors from within our own graduates. Students who complete NRA instructor pathways through our program and demonstrate operational readiness are invited to teach on our roster when positions are available. This is not a guarantee of employment — teaching roster openings depend on class volume and geographic need — but it is a real pathway that has produced working instructors for 27 years.

Graduates who do not teach with USS Academy regularly go on to operate independent training businesses, contract as range safety officers at public and private ranges, provide training for security companies, support law enforcement and military programs, or teach part-time alongside other careers. The credential opens doors in every one of those directions.
