A concealed carry class at USS Academy is designed to be thorough yet efficient. Our goal is to make sure you leave with the knowledge and skills you need to carry responsibly, and with your course completion certificate in hand. Here is what a typical class looks like from start to finish:
Every class begins with a classroom session where you will learn about Florida concealed carry laws, the legal use of force, situational awareness, and the responsibilities that come with carrying a concealed firearm. Our instructors break down complex legal statutes into plain, understandable language so you know exactly what the law requires of you as a permit holder. You will learn when you can and cannot use your firearm, how to interact with law enforcement while carrying, and how to avoid situations that could put you at legal risk.
After the classroom portion, you will receive hands-on training with your firearm. This includes proper grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger discipline, loading and unloading procedures, and safe handling techniques. If you are a beginner, our instructors will work with you one-on-one to make sure you are comfortable and confident before moving to the live-fire range.
The final portion of the class is the live-fire qualification on the range. You will fire a set number of rounds at a target to demonstrate basic proficiency with a handgun. This is not a marksmanship competition — it is a safety qualification. Our instructors are right there with you on the firing line, providing guidance and corrections as needed. USS Academy maintains a 100% pass rate because our instructors take the time to make sure every student is prepared before they step up to the line.
After you successfully complete the classroom instruction and live-fire qualification, you will receive your course completion certificate on the spot. This certificate is the official training document required by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) when you apply for your Concealed Weapons Permit. We will also walk you through the application process so you know exactly what to do next.
Total class time typically runs between 2 and 4 hours depending on the size of the group and the pace of instruction. USS Academy classes are never rushed — we take whatever time is needed to make sure every student understands the material and feels confident.
