Central Florida's Original Firearms Academy — Est. 2008

State-to-State Recognition

Reciprocity is the legal arrangement under which one state recognizes another state's firearm permits. Florida has signed reciprocity agreements with approximately 37 other states, meaning Florida CWL holders can legally carry concealed in those states as long as they follow the destination state's specific carry laws — which can differ significantly from Florida's.

Reciprocity is not automatic. Florida's agreement with each state has specific terms, and some states require the Florida permit holder to be a Florida resident (non-resident Florida permits may not qualify). The agreement list also changes — states add and remove reciprocity periodically — so every traveler should verify the current status with FDACS before each trip.

Always Verify Before Travel

The authoritative source for Florida reciprocity is fdacs.gov, which maintains the current list of reciprocity states. Some permit holders check once and assume the list never changes — this is a mistake. States modify reciprocity agreements, and a state that honored your Florida permit last year may not this year.

Before every out-of-state trip where you plan to carry, verify with FDACS. This takes less than five minutes and removes the legal risk of carrying in a non-reciprocal state.

Follow the Destination State's Laws

Reciprocity means the destination state recognizes your permit. It does not mean your Florida carry rules apply in the other state. When you carry in a reciprocity state, you must follow that state's specific carry laws — carry zones, prohibited places, use-of-force statutes, and any state-specific requirements (magazine capacity limits, loaded-chamber rules, and similar provisions differ significantly state to state).

Florida CWL Reciprocity Overview at USS Academy

USS Academy's program covering florida cwl reciprocity overview is part of a complete Florida firearms training curriculum built over 27 years and refined across more than 29,000 students. Every class is in-person. Every class with a CWP component includes live-fire range qualification. Every class is taught by certified instructors with real credentials and operational field experience.

Our instructor roster includes Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, U.S. Marine Corps instructors, NRA Instructors, USCCA Instructors, and Florida Class K License holders. Classes are structured to serve students at every experience level, from first-time shooters through experienced carriers and veterans. Students leave with the skills, knowledge, and, where applicable, state-approved certification they need.

Experienced gun owners enroll because they need the formal state-required certificate for their Florida CWL application. Military veterans and law enforcement officers enroll to meet Florida's specific certification requirement. Women make up a significant portion of our students, and we run select sessions under female-led instruction. See Women's Concealed Carry for details.

Families enroll together, couples enroll together, and friend groups and workplace colleagues regularly share a class. Group pricing applies at 6 or more students, and private group sessions can be scheduled for 10 or more.
