From Decision to Permit in Hand
The Florida CWL process is straightforward when taken step by step.
Step 1. Verify Eligibility
21+, U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, legally able to possess a firearm, no disqualifying history.
Step 2. Complete Training
Enroll in USS Academy's CWP class. Classroom, live-fire, certificate same day.
Step 3. Gather Application Materials
Government ID, Certificate of Completion, photo, and application fee.
Step 4. Submit to FDACS
Apply online at fdacs.gov or in person at a Florida tax collector's office.
Step 5. Submit Fingerprints
Electronic fingerprints through FDACS-approved provider or tax collector's office.
Step 6. Receive Your Permit
FDACS processing typically 60 to 90 days. Permit arrives by mail.

Every class is in-person. Every class with a CWP component includes live-fire range qualification. Every class is taught by certified instructors with real credentials and operational field experience.

Classes are structured to serve students at every experience level, from first-time shooters through experienced carriers and veterans. Florida Law
Statute 790, Statute 776 justifiable use of force, reciprocity, carry zones, prohibited places, stand your ground, castle doctrine.
Firearm Safety
Four universal rules, safe storage, vehicle transport, family-in-home considerations.
Handling & Mechanics
Grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, reholstering, malfunction clearing.
Live-Fire Qualification
Range safety brief, instructor-supervised live-fire, state-required minimum competency.
Scenario Awareness

Designed for Every Learner
USS Academy programs are built for every learner. First-time shooters enroll regularly and are taught patiently. Experienced gun owners enroll because they need the formal state-required certificate for their Florida CWL application. Military veterans and law enforcement officers enroll to meet Florida's specific certification requirement. Families enroll together, couples enroll together, and friend groups and workplace colleagues regularly share a class. Group pricing applies at 6 or more students, and private group sessions can be scheduled for 10 or more.

What to Expect on Class Day
Location: Classes are held at USS Academy's primary partner range, 595 Donovan Crews Road, Saint Cloud, FL 34773. Additional Orlando-area partner ranges activate seasonally for capacity.
Duration: 4 to 5 hours including classroom, safety brief, live-fire qualification, and certificate issuance.
What to Bring: Valid photo ID. Your own handgun and ammunition (rental available on request). Eye and ear protection (loaners available). Water, closed-toe shoes, sleeved shirt.
